Chapter Three-At The Earl’s Pleasure

I awoke with the realization that I had been dreaming vividly throughout the night. In my dreams I was alone with Tene, abandoning myself to the pain and pleasure he offered, as he spoke to me in a low seductive voice.

The most terrible thing was, I felt that nothing I was experiencing was hidden from him. That, just as he had somehow known the true effect being in his presence was having on me, he also seemed to know other, more intimate things. Since he had put his hand up my skirts I felt as if he was somehow watching me.

I was having my morning bath, being bathed by my ladies in waiting. Though we were of different stations in life we were laughing and giggling like three schoolgirls when one of them made a remark.

“Your lover is very ardent,” she observed, looking down at my breasts as they bobbed on top of the sweet-smelling bubbles of my bath,” He left quite a bruise on your bosom, Princess!”

Frowning I looked down, then I gasped. Around the outside of the areola was a perfect circle that looked like bruising left by a large pair of lips.

No, it couldn’t be…

Although flustered I quickly recovered.

“Yes, my betrothed is a very ardent lover,” I told them. Let them assume that I was already sleeping with Earl Angelus if they wanted. It didn’t matter to me what they thought. But inwardly I was fuming.

Tenebris had no right to visit me in my sleep! I couldn’t wait to confront him when he came to visit at the usual hour that day.

When he arrived later, he looked more handsome than ever, and had an air of being immensely pleased with himself.

As we strolled in the garden with my old nurse walking a respectful distance behind us, I turned to him.

“Were you in my chambers last night Tenebris?” I asked, wondering how he would answer.

To my surprise he sighed.

“I can’t deny that I visited you last night Princess. I apologize. I know I should have requested your permission to visit you in your bedchamber, though, as I am sure you are aware, the laws of the kingdom clearly state…”

"I KNOW WHAT THE LAWS STATE!” I interrupted, my temper flaring,” But a true gentleman would have asked my permission! I forbid you to visit until our wedding night, do you hear me?”

For some reason he appeared amused.

“My deepest apologies,” he told me, stepping away to bow deeply,” I will henceforth not bother you in the night tide again. I was overwhelmed by your charms yesterday. Again, I apologize!”

We resumed walking. I was mollified by his apology, but it caused me to consider something else.

“Am I….,” I began, forcing myself to say what I had been thinking,” Am I still…?”

Somehow, I couldn’t force myself to say the words, but HE understood immediately what I was trying to say.

“Oh, my Princess! If it is your virtue you are concerned about, let me assure you that your maidenhood is quite intact!” he assured me.
